Global Azure Bootcamp Frankfurt - final agenda

AGENDA in Frankfurt am Main

08.30-09.00 - Check-In

The e-shelter data center is subject to a high security level, therefore we kindly ask you to prove your identity by providing an official identity card with photograph upon registration at the data center. In addition, a further official document with photograph (e.g. passport, driver's license) is required as a deposit for the visitor badge.

Please note, if you check-in after 08.30, your will probably not be able to attend first session.

09.00-09.15 - Welcome keynote

By Damir Dobric

09.15-10.00 - Microsoft Azure IoT Edge

by Damir Dobric

Development of cloud technologies enabled massive grow of IoT and AI solutions. By growing of service power in the cloud many solutions especially in industry require execution of complex processing on the edge, long before the data reach the cloud.

In this session you will learn how such scenarios can be leveraged by using Azure IoT-Edge offering.

We will demonstrate how to develop and run complex processing like filtering or AI inside of IoT-modules running in Docker containers.

10.15-10.45 - Blockchain

by Manuel Rauber

Blockchains have been widely talked about for several weeks and months now. Depending on whom you ask, Blockchains could disrupt the financial world, insurance market or supply chain management. Microsoft Azure also supports executing blockchains—via third-party solutions such as BlockApps or Azure’s own Blockchain Service: With a few clicks, you can provision complex blockchain networks. Manuel shows you how Azure’s blockchain-as-a-service offer feels and what you can do with it.

11.00-11.45 - Kubernetes

by Alexander Zeitler

Docker has fundamentally changed how we think about topics like Microservices und Continuous Delivery.

Combined with Kubernetes it makes Cluster-Management in Microservices-Environments a breeze.

This session shows how easy it is to deploy Microservices in Azure Container Service using Kubernetes and Docker.

12.00 – 12.45 - Event-based Microservices with Azure Functions, EventGrid & friends

by Boris Wilhelms & Christian Weyer

Whaaat? No servers? Well, yes. The Serverless approach for building microservices promises to offer a low entry barrier - for both getting starting and for fulfilling a target. In this session Christian & Boris will show you end-to-end Serverless with Azure & .NET Core by means of a realistic application scenario from customer projects.

12.45 – 13.30 Lunch with WinML and image Classification

By Andreas Erben

Deep learning experts are hard to find, not every team has them accessible, yet many solutions can often benefit from deep learning tasks such as image classification.

Microsoft Cognitive Services Custom Vision aims to democratize image classification tasks in applications. We will look at how this works and how to utilize it. While Google’s AutoML gets most of the media coverage, Microsoft launched Custom Vision in preview already last year, and it is expected to become generally available soon.

In the discussed use case we trained a custom vision model with about 35000 medical images to enable automatic detection of a body part. A comparison with a TensorFlow based implementation prepared by a deep learning expert showed that Custom Vision’s image classification results are on-par if not better. In the future, you will be able to run a trained model on a Windows device through Windows Machine Learning (WinML). You will see the workflow to do that.

13.30 – 14.00 Quantum Computing Intro

By Indraneel pole

Quantum computing has become quite a buzz word in recent times. But are we really there yet? Is Quantum Computing anything more than just the buzz word? What does it even mean by Quantum Computing?

Earlier this year, Microsoft launched their Quantum Development Kit which promises to give the developer first hand experience on Quantum Development through Azure Cloud, without any real investment in Quantum Computers. Indraneel decided to download this Development Kit and play around with it a little bit. This small talk is the summary of his experiments with Quantum Development Kit.

14.05-14.50 TensorFlow & Co as a Service (45 Min)

By Sascha Dittmann

If you wanted to build a model using popular AI frameworks such as TensorFlow, CNTK, Caffe, Chainer & Co, you had to take care of the entire infrastructure yourself and configure your Data Science IDE accordingly.

But that has an end now.

In this session, Sascha Dittmann shows how the Azure Machine Learning Workbench and the Azure Batch AI service build a consistent and easy-to-use data science environment. With this you can then experiment in parallel on a large scale, as well as train deep learning and AI models.

15.00-15.45 "R" for developers

By Andreas Lehmann

Many Data Science solutions are written in R or Python and Azure offers multiple ways to run those kinds of projects. But how to get this code productive.

This session will give you an overview of the Azure Services you can use to run R code and some stories how these behave beside a sample implementation in real world scenarios.

15.45 – 16.30 Networking
